Seventeen regional and national fine artists have been painting in local vineyards for a year to produce paintings and photographs for the Knowlton Gallery’s spring show, VINES. The idea was to capture the beauty of the region’s wine industry by offering artists access to private property where they could paint and photograph the vineyards, in all seasons.
Artists worked in pastel, oil, acrylic, watercolor and photography. They painted in vineyards in the Sierra Foothills and in the Lodi-Woodbridge region.
“The wine industry is Lodi’s identity,” explains gallery owner Robin Knowlton. “Many of the area’s farms have been in the same family for five generations. We take great pride in our farmers and the award-winning wines they produce. I’m so glad to have such a prestigious group of artists painting the heart and soul of our community.”
Artists participating in the show are: Chella (Modesto), John Budicin (San Bernardino), Charles Waldman (Columbia), Clark Mitchell (Petaluma), Daniel Kasser (Stockton), Lucinda Kasser (Stockton), Glenna Hartmann (Santa Barbara), Juan Pena (Colfax), Kathleen Dunphy (Murphys), Kent Rogerson (Stockton), Marika Wolfe (Stockton), Marilyn Eger (Acampo), Nancy Holl-Smith (Lodi), Ning Hou (Locke), Ray Roberts (Angels Camp), Gay Faulkenberry (Oklahoma), Gil Dellinger (Stockton).
VINES will run from April 29 through June 28. An Opening Reception with the artists will take place Friday, May 2, from 6 – 8:30pm, at the Knowlton Gallery, 115 S. School Street #14, Downtown Lodi, California. |
