2007 - Monterey Bay Aquarium by SeeLodi (created on )Gallery

As an 8th Grader you are required to know something about the ocean. The problem is, some of Houston's 8th Graders had never seen the ocean and many others had ever visited a first class aquarium.

Kathy Stoddard and Judith Closson, two of Houston School's most popular teachers, solved that problem by taking Houston's 8th Grade class to the world famous Monterey Bay Aquarium. While visiting the aquarium, the students were able to see one of the most complete collections of sea animals in the world, including the only White Shark in captivity ... all set against the backdrop of the Pacific Ocean.

Kathy and Judy want to thank the 20 chaperones who freely volunteered their time as well as the following financial contributors who made this event possible: The Houston Parent Club, Education Advocate.org, Mr. & Mrs. Staples, and SeeLodi.com. Above and beyond the call of duty, Kathy Stoddard and Judith Closson also contributed financially to this study trip.

In the words of Dr. Closson, "this is what effective education is all about. Instead of just reading about it, the kids experienced 'the mysterious and mesmerizing world where sea life looms large'"

Kudos to all those participating in the adventure in education.
