The Board of Education has answered the questions raised on September 16th, 2007 regarding mold contamination in District schools. We thank the District for their timely response. (see PDF link below) However, a careful reading raises other important questions, including health issues.
For example:
Quoting a mold assessment resource: "Some types of mold produce myotoxins as a defense mechanism. Toxic molds, such as penicillium, stachybotrys, cladosporium and aspergillus, can create problems with indoor air that may lead to allergic reactions or sickness. People can be exposed to these toxins by inhaling, ingesting or touching the mold. The individual’s susceptibility depends on the type of mold and the amount of exposure they receive."
Given that the District identified the types of mold capable of producing myotoxins, and given that the District does not know how long these molds have existed throughout Tokay High, and given that students, teachers and staff have been working in those contaminated areas for months or years ... why didn't you test for mycotoxins? Disclosure of that information could have served the health interests of people who have and are continuing to experience unexplained symptoms associated with toxic mold.
