You could see the concern on their faces and hear the dismay in their voices as parents of children attending Clements School listened and tried to reason with LUSD administrators and School Board members Thursday evening.
Displacing 5 and 6 year old's from their local school in Clements and transporting them to Lockeford for a meager future savings of only $50,000 did not sit well with the parents.
Expressions included: "Why don't administrators cut their own salaries?" ... "If we wrote you a check for $50K would you keep our school open?" ... "It seems like you're giving us just one alternative - close Clements School!"
Administrators explained that the final decision is in the hands of the School Board, which is scheduled to vote on the closing February 3rd.
Dr. Closson, a local student advocate, encouraged parents to attend the February 3rd School District meeting and passed out information concerning his intentions to convert Clements to a public Charter school if the Board votes to close it.
